Maharashtrian Bride Jewellery Checklist: Nath, Mangalsutra, Malas and Traditional Pieces
by Jihaan Savla on Sep 20, 2026
A Maharashtrian bride's jewellery follows a set tradition, and each piece has a name and a place. This checklist lists the main pieces, what they are and how to choose them. It also says clearly which of them we list online, so you know what to expect.
What jewellery does a Maharashtrian bride usually wear?
The core pieces are the nath (nose ring), mangalsutra, green glass bangles, a long mala or haar, earrings, a forehead ornament and a waist belt. Regional pieces such as thushi (a close-fitting choker), bugadi (an upper-ear earring), tanmani and pohe haar are also worn. Our Maharashtrian jewellery guide explains each name.
Which of these do you list online?
We list nath, mangalsutra, malas, long sets, waist belts and earrings online. Thushi, bugadi and a few other regional pieces are not listed online at the moment, and we would rather say so than mislead you. Message us on WhatsApp to ask whether something similar is available.
How do I choose a nath?
Choose the size and the closure first: a clip-on nath does not need a piercing, while a pierced style needs the right gauge. Then choose pearls or stones to match the mangalsutra and the saree. See our nath, nathiya and nose rings and the nose jewellery guide.
How do I choose a mangalsutra?
Pick the length and the bead style you will wear daily, and keep a heavier design for the wedding. Browse the mangalsutra collection and read the mangalsutra designs guide.
Which necklaces suit a Maharashtrian saree look?
A long mala or pearl set works well with a nine-yard or a Paithani saree. See malas, pearl sets and moti jewellery and long sets.
What about the waist belt and head jewellery?
A waist belt or kandora finishes a saree at the waist, and a forehead or hair ornament completes the bridal look. Browse waist belts and kamarband and maang tikka.
In short: nath, mangalsutra, malas, long sets and waist belts are all available to browse online. We ship free across India. Message us on WhatsApp at +91 98705 89560 for anything not listed.
