How to Pack Jewellery for a Destination Wedding: Travel and Storage Checklist

A destination wedding means several outfits, several sets and a lot of small pieces that tangle or scratch. A few habits make the difference between arriving with a neat kit and arriving with a knot. This checklist covers what to pack and how.

Should I carry jewellery in my hand luggage or check it in?

Carry the pieces you cannot easily replace, such as the main bridal set, in your hand luggage. Everyday and spare pieces can go in checked baggage if they are well wrapped. Keep a written list of what is in each bag.

How should I pouch each piece?

Give each set its own soft pouch or a compartment in a box, and close the clasps first. Do not put chains and stone-set pieces in the same pouch, since they scratch each other. Small zip bags work if you have no pouches.

How do I stop chains and long sets from tangling?

What should I do when I arrive?

Unpack straight away, put each set back in its pouch, and store the case in a safe place such as a locker or a locked bag. Wear jewellery after make-up and perfume and take it off first when you undress.
