Where to Buy Wholesale Fashion Jewellery in Mumbai
by Saloni Fashion Jewellery on Aug 15, 2026
Mumbai is the largest source of fashion and imitation jewellery in India, and most retail shops across the country stock from here. If you are opening a jewellery counter or adding one to an existing shop, this is how the market actually works.
Why buyers source from Mumbai
Three reasons. Manufacturing and finishing are concentrated here, so new designs reach shelves fast. Volume is high enough that per-piece prices stay competitive. And the range in one city is wide enough that a retailer can stock an entire counter without dealing with suppliers in four states.
What to look for in a supplier
Price is the obvious factor and the least useful one to lead with. What separates a supplier you stay with from one you try once:
- Range depth. Can you fill a whole counter from them — bridal sets, earrings, mangalsutra, bangles, accessories — or will you be splitting orders across vendors? One supplier means one payment, one shipment, one point of contact when something goes wrong.
- Restock reliability. The design that sells out is the one you need again next week. Ask whether fast movers get replenished or whether every order is a fresh hunt.
- Honest material descriptions. Brass or alloy? Gold plated or antique gold plated? A supplier who is vague about this is a supplier whose stock will surprise you.
- Someone who answers. In a business that runs on WhatsApp, a supplier who replies within the hour is worth more than one who is two percent cheaper.
- Willingness to sell small first. Any supplier confident in their stock will let you test a design before committing to depth.
What sells, and in what proportion
For a new counter, weight your first order roughly like this:
- Earrings — the largest share. Studs and tops in particular. Low ticket, high repeat, and they sell to customers who came in for something else.
- Mangalsutra. Bought once and replaced periodically, which makes demand steady rather than seasonal.
- Bridal necklace sets. Higher ticket, slower turn, but they are what brings customers through the door during wedding season.
- Bangles and bracelets. Reliable through festivals and weddings both.
- Accessories and combos. Maang tikka, nose pins, hair clips, kaan chains — inexpensive add-ons that lift average order value at the counter.
Add pooja and decor items — diyas, murti, sindoor dibbis — if you are near Diwali. That category clears well before the festival week, so buying late means missing it entirely.
Timing your orders
Two peaks dominate the year: wedding season and Diwali. Both punish late buyers. Bridal designs in specific colours sell out, and Diwali decor is gone before the week itself. Ordering four to six weeks ahead of each peak is the difference between stocking the season and watching it pass.
A practical first order
Do not go deep on anything you have not sold before. A sensible first order is broad and shallow: a few pieces across many designs, weighted toward proven categories, so you learn what your customers actually buy before committing capital. Ask your supplier what their best sellers are — those are the lowest-risk stock in any catalogue, because they have already sold repeatedly to other shops.
