Diwali Week Counter Rush Checklist for Jewellery Shops
by Jihaan Savla on Oct 22, 2026
Quick answer: In Diwali week, give each person on the counter one job (showing, billing, packing), keep the bill book and change ready before opening, refresh the display in ten minutes each morning, and keep a running restock list so you can send it to your supplier the same day. Send the list early, because supplier timing is not in your control. Diwali is on Sunday 8 November 2026, and for ordering from Saloni you can message us on WhatsApp first and ask what is available now.

The week of Dhanteras and Diwali is the busiest of the year for a jewellery counter, and it is also the week when small mistakes cost the most: a customer waits too long, a bill is wrong, a best-seller disappears from the shelf by afternoon. A checklist keeps the counter moving when you do not have time to think. This one is for shop owners, boutique staff and online sellers who handle festive demand themselves.
It is general retail advice from how fashion jewellery counters work, plus facts from our wholesale page where we mention how to order from us. It does not use any figures or targets. For the bigger plan, see our Diwali 2026 stocking calendar for jewellery shops.
How should I staff the counter during Diwali week?
Give each person one fixed job instead of letting everyone do everything: one person shows and explains, one person bills, and one person packs and restocks the display. During a rush, a customer waiting for a bill is more likely to walk out than one waiting to see a design, so billing should never be the same person as the one showing.
If you are alone, batch the work: show, bill and pack in that order for each customer and keep a small tray of ready-wrapped gifts near the till. Share the day's plan with your team the night before, including who takes breaks and when.
What should I prepare for billing and packing?
Before opening, check that the bill book or billing software is working, the change box is full, the card or UPI machine is charged and the packing material is stocked. Prepare small pouches or boxes in advance, since packing is the step that slows the line down the most.
For tax and invoice rules, confirm the details with your accountant, because we cannot advise on them. Keep a separate list for returns and exchanges so the cashier knows what your shop's policy is without asking you each time.
How do I refresh the display quickly each day?
Spend ten minutes before opening on three things: pull the sold pieces forward from the back so no tray looks empty, put the fastest festive pieces at eye level, and wipe the counter glass and trays. Group by colour or by price, and keep the gift range near the billing counter so customers add one more item while they wait.
Our guides on how to display fashion jewellery in a small shop and shop window and night counter display ideas give the longer version, and the layout advice in stocking a gift counter for Rakhi and Diwali applies this week too.
How do I keep a restock list during the rush?
Keep a simple list on a notepad or phone and write each design code or colour as soon as the last piece goes, plus anything customers asked for that you did not have. At the end of each day, copy it into one message so you do not rely on memory at night.
Group the list by category, such as earrings, bangle sets, combo sets and decor, and note which items sold fastest. Our guide to planning festive season reorders explains how to split orders across the season. Browse jewellery combo sets and earrings to see what you might need to top up.
What should I do about gift and return-gift customers?
Make the gift range easy to find and easy to buy: group small pieces and combos together at a few price points, and keep a few pooja items such as diyas next to the till. A customer who comes in for one gift may add another if the choice is clear.
Browse diyas and bangles and bracelets for items that sit well in a gift corner. Our guide to planning a Diwali return gift range explains how to build one.
When should I send my restock list to Saloni?
As early as possible, and before you run out. To order from us, message us on WhatsApp at +91 98705 89560 with your shop type and categories. We send designs and rates, you confirm quantities, we confirm stock and total, and we dispatch after payment is confirmed. Minimums depend on the category and design, so ask us what applies to yours.
Because we cannot promise how fast any single order will reach you in festival weeks, treat the stock on your counter now as what you will sell through Diwali, and send the list for the next phase straight away. Read how to order wholesale jewellery in India or open the wholesale page for the process.
What should I plan for the day after Diwali?
Set aside a short block on the first quiet day to count what is left and what sold out, because that count decides your next order. Do not wait for the festival to end to note your best sellers; your restock list from the week already shows them.
When you are ready for that step, read our post-Diwali clearance and wedding season reset guide and the guide to reviewing Diwali sales in a simple sheet.
